Town Crier cake

Even though we no longer “officially” have a service for brides, that doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten them. See the above cake? Isn’t it lovely and classy? I can envision a Bible reference on the bottom tier to make the message clear. Love it. Available here

Dear Christian Brides,

roses and pearls,

We really did want to help you out, as we view marriage as the most important basic institution of our society, or any society for that matter. So we wanted to do our little bit towards being of service to many who are going through the exciting and hectic days of preparing for their weddings, the very initiation into this blessed institution. We wanted to help you make your day a testimony to others and a sacred memory for you and your family in the future. But alas, we’ve had to give up that little dream and concentrate on other things. It’s the Lord’s will for us, but that doesn’t mean we don’t still have you in our hearts. Call on us if you need us. We’re still here for you and if by any means or if there is any way we can still work something out, we will. We still haven’t totally forgotten you either. We’ve kept your main page at our site and we’ll continue to let you know if there are any remnants of the goodies we had for you still available or anything new we want to tell you about. Please don’t forget about us and please remember to tell others who are getting married, as we do still care and won’t ever totally abandon you. Even now, we continue to have a little something for you if you need us and we’ll try not to ever forget you. Promise.

God bless your coming marriage. May you look to Christ together as husband and wife and bring up any children the Lord blesses you with to honor and revere him. The future of our society depends on it.

In Christian Love,

Speakable Gifts

Christian Brides

Sunday, June 5th, 2011

We’re sorry to say, but it appears that the Lord is leading us to abandon our desire to serve the Christian Bride. It has become clearly evident to us that this is not the direction He has for us. For more information, see our Christian Bride page, which we will be leaving up for a while.

We have many things which we are contemplating these days and if you’ve been around for the past two to three months, you’ve probably noticed it’s been a bit quiet at SG. We are waiting on the Lord about several directions to go with products and services, so as we’ve said before, check back in when you have time to see what, if anything, is new.

Hope you and your family are being richly blessed these days. Another thing we are waiting on is a third little daughter/granddaughter who is expected to arrive in September.

For His Glory,
Maxine (Nanna)

Give Thanks - Wooden Caddy

DaySpring has a neat new product just in time for Thanksgiving–an inspirational wooden caddy to sort your utensils at gatherings. This is something I just might get for myself! Click on the image and go shopping for this and some of their other neat items! Remember, you’ll be helping us out if you go to do your shopping there from here or our website page.

A tip: I think this would make a nice bridal shower gift. Lots of uses for this one!

Many blessings,

Maxine

Wedding Gift Suggestions from TOFA

Best_Bet_Wedding_Gifts

The Old Farmers Almanac has a wealth of helps and ideas on a huge number of topics. A link to this page came up on my Facebook homepage a short bit ago and I thought it worth sharing here.

When you go to this article entitled “Best Bet Wedding Gifts,” you might want to also check out a couple of links over to the right of the article which are also wedding related. One is an article about wedding cakes that some of you may be interested in.

About hope chests. This is an old-fashioned concept that I hope never goes out of fashion. I know there are still young ladies who have them, so that’s encouraging. By the way, we carry an excellent book that talks about preparing for marriage in a way that goes beyond hope chests. I would strongly encourage you to check this book out for future reference and purchase.

Blessings on your weekend,

Maxine

Setting up a gift registry

Friday, September 17th, 2010

This has become such a common thing in our day, that it’s doubtful that a bride wouldn’t know about it, but just in case. This video is very simple and basic and pretty much tells you all you would need to know. I’m sure the actual setup is different for each store, but for those who are not very computer literate, we’d suggest recruiting the help of someone who is.

Paper Dolls

flower girls paper dolls

Trying to think of a gift for the flower girls can be a challenge for a bride. Have you ever considered paper dolls and/or other wedding related books? Dover Publications have several options that you can group together in a nice little package. It would certainly help the little ladies remember your big day. Next to the bride, they tend to be the stars of the show. You can be sure they’ll want to remember that! Why not hop over to Dover and see what they have? Go to this page and scroll down.

Pick out the books, put them all together in a pretty cello or organza bag, and you have a very special thank you gift for these very special young ladies. SG would be delighted to take care of this for you if you’d like one less thing to do.

By the way, don’t forget about our great special going on with some leftover Dover books from our discontinued fun bags. Listen, these are great for homeschooling moms of preschool through third graders, grandmoms, Sunday school teachers, party favors, etc. etc. Believe me, this is a very good deal even including the shipping since the retail price on these books is now $1.50. Figure it out with your calculator!!! More info is here.

Happy Planning!

A Bit Much to Chew

Thursday, August 12th, 2010

I always do it. Bite off much more than is chewable. Doing a bridal tip each and every week is a bit much. So our “weekly” tip will be a bit less often than that. But hopefully it will be often enough that brides will come from time to time to see what new helps are being offered. Subscribe to our feed to be sure you don’t miss any! More are coming quite soon, hopefully.

Flowers by Season

roses in war bag

If you want to save money on your wedding flowers, you really don’t want to get them when they’re not in season. Getting them in season is the way to go and this article will help you with that. I’m a proponent of silk flowers, but that’s another post. Hope the above site will be a help to you in deciding not only on what flowers to choose, but on what season would be best for your big day.

Happy Planning,
Maxine
