A Chance to Judge Others

Beauty Contest

Calling all potential beauty queen judges between the ages of eleven and sixteen……!!! Know anybody who might want to give it a try? Our thirteen year old daughter enjoyed her mom’s little booklet that made her a judge of others for a while. (You know how much we sinful creatures love to judge others!) She even picked the right winner, but her scoring of all the contestants was different from mine. That’s really interesting, how much each person will see things differently. Since the purpose of the booklet is that girls will think about real beauty, I hope the need to think about the qualities of these “contestants” helped her to apply some things to her own life. That’s the point of it all. At least it helped me to say a few things without “preaching.”

I hope some folks will pick it up this fall and put it in their daughter or granddaughter’s stocking. Or maybe someone in the targeted age group would like to give it as a pollyanna gift. Think about it. Tell your friends.

Talk to you soon

Finally

Friday, October 27th, 2006

Well, after going around Robin Hood’s barn, I finally have the blog set up like I want it. I like the new template (”theme” as WordPress calls it) and lo and behold, have even managed to put a search box on it so that visitors may search the blog. I made far too much of a big deal out of that, so that it took forever to do. Actually, it was quite simple, but the good thing is that it was a learning experience in managing template files, etc. I am now finished with boring my readers with the mechanics of having this site and will now begin posting real info for customers and friends. Hopefully, that will be soon and relatively often. Stay tuned.

I’ll Stay

Friday, October 20th, 2006

I have decided to stay here at WordPress, at least for now. There is quite a bit of information telling us what to do, so maybe I can handle it. So even though this site is still under construction, as of today I am making it the official blog site for Speakable Gifts. Please bear with me as I try to figure it all out. I have not been able to understand the directions for design and layout (there are a huge number of them), so I will stick with one of the standard templates for now. Maybe in the future when I am more adventurous I will fool around with all that html and css stuff. It won’t be very soon–too much else is going on in my life.

Anyway, if you have landed here via any of the links I’m putting in place today, welcome. Come back often to see what new things are going on here. I hope this will be my last blog change for a while!

Picking a Favorite

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Okay, according to instructions, I needed a third test. For this post, maybe I’ll tell you which of our products is my favorite. I had to think about this for a bit, but if I really had to pick a favorite, I think it would be the Stepping Heavenward giftset. First of all, there is still no book that I love better. The edition we use in our set is a pocket sized one. Very readable, it will fit in a purse to be taken on trips, visits to doctors’ offices and so much more. We think we’ve made this gift set very affordable with the addition of our little mini journal and bookmark. Might be worth looking into if you want to have it on hand for just the time you want to encourage someone. I doubt that this is the last time I talk about this product!

Excuse Me

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

We are a family organization, a very small one. So for my second test post I just wanted to say that my family is probably my favorite topic. So, please excuse me if from time to time I talk about my dear husband, dear daughters (and dear son-in-law), but especially my dear and precious new granddaughter. I’ll try to restrain myself from talking about them too much, reserving that for my other blog. But sometimes I’m sure that I won’t resist!

A New Venture

Wednesday, October 18th, 2006

Greetings Friends,

Welcome to all friends and customers of Speakable Gifts. But then, if you are a customer or even a potential one, you are also our friend. And then again, if you are just an interested person who happened upon us and have no ill will towards us and our Lord, then we’ll count you, too, as a friend. So, hello friends.

This is my initial (test) post while embarking on a new venture. One of the definitions for the word “venture” is that it is a risky undertaking. I think that fits here. I have only been blogging for about five months and have had one problem after another. That has led to various changes in the plans which had initially been made. For now, Blogger seems to fit my purposes better for a personal site, but in this new undertaking, I have switched to WordPress for business related posting.

I don’t understand it all, but this WordPress site is being powered by Yahoo, who does the webhosting for Speakable Gifts. The beginners’ blog which Yahoo offered has caused me quite a lot of woes and the tools in this one are said to be more advanced. That’s what is scary. I am anything but advanced as a user, but let’s see how well I can follow the rather detailed instructions at the WordPress site. If it works out, I’ll be back!
